IoT is at the heart of Industry 4.0. But connecting sensors, data, and manufacturing processes requires engineers who understand both worlds. This article describes new training materials that bridge telecommunications and mechanical engineering.
What the training covers:
- Networking fundamentals: IP addressing, subnetting, routing, and the IoT model
- Materials science: composite materials, vacuum infusion, and post-infusion treatment
- Hands-on practice: performing vacuum infusion and monitoring process parameters using IoT sensors
The 24-hour programme — spanning three days of theory and practice — was developed by ESTIA and its composite platform, Composiadour. Materials will be available under a Creative Commons licence before the start of the 2026–27 academic year.
