He is the Secretary General of EURASHE, the European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (Brussels), and has a background in economic geography, regional development and governance, with a focus on EU innovation and cohesion policies. Between 2011 and 2020, Dr Edwards worked for the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, leading projects on the role of higher education and vocational excellence in the design and implementation of smart specialisation strategies.
