Frequently asked questions

The Joint Dual PhD is a new kind of doctorate designed to develop PhD candidates as hybrid innovation agents, combining the roles of scientist and venture builder. It connects academic research with industry collaboration and knowledge valorisation.

Applicants must hold higher education qualifications totalling 300 ECTS across EQF Levels 6 and 7. They must also demonstrate English proficiency at C1 level and, where applicable, be eligible to obtain a student visa.

Each PhD project is supported by a unified tripartite steering committee composed of the PhD candidate, an academic supervisor and a corporate supervisor. This structure ensures coordination between the research, academic and industry dimensions of the project.

PhD candidates can participate in research stays and Young Researcher Schools as part of their doctoral experience.

Industry partners can support PhD projects through funding and co-supervision, within the context of a medium- or long-term collaboration with the EU4Dual Knowledge Valorisation Hubs.
