Between 12th and 16th May 2025, a group of nursing students, accompanied by academic staff from the Institute of Applied Science, participated in a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) in Kuopio, Finland. This training mobility was described as an exceptional and immersive journey into the heart of patient safety within surgical nursing, offering a rare opportunity to blend academic enrichment with cultural discovery and creating a truly holistic learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The thoughtfully curated schedule provided deep, hands-on engagement in core aspects of surgical patient care. Throughout the week, participants explored critical topics such as specialized patient positioning to prevent injury, advanced airway management, comprehensive perioperative assessments, and safe cannulation practices. Each session emphasized evidence-based methods and practical skills essential for minimizing risk and ensuring safety in the surgical environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A particularly impactful moment of the program was the visit to the university hospital. Clad in scrubs, the group toured various surgical units, observing the layout, workflow, and advanced technology used in real-time patient care. This firsthand look into the Finnish healthcare system offered valuable insights into how theoretical knowledge is applied in practice and underscored the importance of interprofessional collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beyond the clinical setting, the program fostered a vibrant learning environment enriched by the diversity of its participants. Working alongside fellow nursing students from Finland, Austria, and Slovenia was both inspiring and enlightening.
